A Descriptive study to assess the knowledge and prevention on foot care among the Diabetes mellitus client who are attending medical OPD in GR Medical College and Hospital Gwalior M.P.

ABSTRACT:

Diabetes mellitus is metabolic disorder characterized by chronic hyperglycemia and trouble in carbohydrate, protein and fat as a result of defect in insulin secretion, insulin diabetes action or both (1). In this study the descriptive research design is used and nonprobability sampling technique is used for selection of sample, the sample is diabetic client in general medical OPD of G.R. Medical College and hospital Gwalior M.P. The sample size is 40 and data are collected by structured questionnaire. The level of score regarding diabetes among the diabetic client are different from finding of study. The study conclude the highest % of diabetic client (20%) was in the group 25 to 33 year in 34 to 42 (32.5) in 43 to 50 year it was (47.55%). Majority of sample occupation is in 25 to 50 year related to their occupation % that (55%) are unemployment and 45% are employment. the 25 to 50 in relation to their religion that is (52.5%) are Hindu, (30%) are Muslim and (17.5%) are Christian. The reason for conducting the study in OPD of G.R Medical College and Hospital Gwalior M.P. Because most of people come from rural area they having very less exposure of knowledge.

INTRODUCTION:

Diabetes mellitus is a group of metabolic disease characterized level of glucose rise in the blood resulting from defect in insulin secretion, insulin action or both 5. India represent 49% of the world s, diabetes burden, with an estimated million cases in 2017. A figure expected to almost double to 134 million by 2025. This present a serious public health problem to a country facing a future of high population growth and a government attempting to provide health insurance to half of the billion people (9).

 

India is the one of the 6 country of the IDF SEA region, 425 million people have diabetes In the world and 82 million people in the SEA region, by 2045 this will rise to 151 million. there were over 72.946.400 case of diabetes in India in 2017(10)

 

OBJECTIVE:

1.     To Assess the knowledge regarding diabetic foot care in diabetes mellitus client in G.R Medical College and Hospital.

2.     To find out the association between knowledge and selected demographic variables among diabetes mellitus client.

 

RESEACH METHODOLOGY:

RESEARCH DESIGN:

A descriptive research design is chosen to assess the knowledge and prevention of diabetes mellitus among the diabetic client.

 

SETTING OF STUDY:

The study was conducted in GR Medical College and Hospital Gwalior M.P. In these hospital very good facilities for client and most of client come from different places.

 

POPULATION:

The study population consist 40 patients in general medicine OPD of GR Medical COLLEGE andHospital both male and female patient are included in the study who are in general medicine OPD.

 

SAMPLE:

Both male and female who having diabetes mellitus included in the study who are in general medicine OPD.

 

SAMLE SIZE:

Sample size consist 40.

 

INCLUSION CRITERIA:

Sample who are who willing to participate in the study.

Sample who understand English and Hindi

Who are suffering from Diabetes Mellitus.

 

EXCLUSION CRITERIA:

Who are suffering from any illness

 

SAMPLING TECHNIQUE:

Non probability simple random sampling technique is used.

 

DEVLOPMENT AND DESCRIPTION OF TOOL:

The tool used for the study consist two part.

Part: I Socio demographic tool

Part: Web authoring tool or software program.

Overall finding shows that there is significance association between knowledge of foot care diabetes mellitus in adult client

ˇ       80% has moderate knowledge .

ˇ       5% has adequate knowledge.

The level of knowledge score regarding foot care among the diabetic client are different from the finding of study the study conclude that highest % of diabetic client (47.5%) was in the age group 43 to 50 year. majority of a sample believe in both gender .the majority of sample believe in Hindu religion 21(52.5%). Highest percentage of 28(70%) married. Highest percentage of of 22(55%) was unemployment. Highest percentage 14(35%) was income group Rs. 10001 to 20000. Highest percentage of 17 (42.5%) was family history of diabetes. Highest percentage of duration of illness in less then 1 year and 1 to 2 year is 17(42.5%). Highest percentage 23(57.5%) belong to urban background. highest percentage of 18(45%) was below high school. Highest percentage of 24(60%) was no addicted. Highest percentage source of information 18(45%) had used newspaper.
